Alone on Valentine's Day? It is Fine

Did You Spend Your Valentine’s Day Alone? It’s Okay!

Valentine’s Day just passed, and people worldwide celebrated it with their loved ones. But not all people have found their better half yet. More than 100 million people in the US alone – close to 50% of their population – are single. In England and Wales, around 35% of all people have never been married or cohabited.

So, if you’re single, you’re not alone, and it’s something you shouldn’t be ashamed of or worried about. And it doesn’t matter whether you’re in your 20s, 30s, or 40s. Yes, being alone can sometimes hurt. You can feel lonely and find a dire need for someone to talk to and spend time with.

Is being lonely and single eating you from the inside? Here are some ways to enjoy being single and living your life to the fullest.

Do Things Only Singles Can Do

One of the benefits of not having a significant other is that you don’t need to run decisions by another person before making them. Suppose you want to get a pet. If you’re in a relationship, you’ll need to ask your partner if he or she is okay with getting a pet. But if you’re single, you can make such decisions on your own and enjoy them. You don’t need to consult anyone, and the only feelings that matter are yours.

Travel Alone

Traveling alone is an ineffable experience. It’s so great that only those who’ve experienced it can understand it. If you don’t want to go solo, go with a bunch of your pals. You can have much more fun alone or with your friends compared to when you travel solo.

Not that traveling as a couple is not enjoyable, but that’s what honeymoons are for. If you want to be a free person on your trip and do whatever you want, go solo or with your besties.

Spend Time with People who Matter

Relationships are not permanent. They come and go. But friends and family stay for much longer. Don’t cut off your friends and family members for your love relationship.

Moreover, we live busy lives, and it’s not easy to catch up with friends and family regularly. But when you’re single, sparing time for those people becomes easier. Whenever you have free time, try spending it with those who matter the most. You don’t want to look back in life and regret not spending enough time with your loved ones when you had the opportunity.

Work Hard, Play Hard

An essential perk of being single this Valentine’s Day is that you can work on yourself. As discussed, relationships come and go. The only relationship that matters is the one you have with yourself.

Do you love and care about yourself? Then start working towards giving yourself a better life. It doesn’t matter whether you study, work, or run a business. Give your 100% at work, knowing that you’re doing it for no one else but yourself.

At the same time, don’t forget to play and party hard. You’ve worked hard, and you deserve a celebration. Learn to reward yourself and do what makes you happy. Want to grab a drink at the nearest bar? Go ahead? Want to take a short vacation. Do that.

Take Up a New Hobby

When you’re single, you have a lot of free time. Put it to good use by taking up a new hobby. It can be anything – reading, writing, painting, dancing, playing an instrument, and more. Find something that drives you. Something you’re passionate about. Once you find it, start doing it whenever you find yourself doing nothing.

Build Meaningful Friendships

If your relationship has affected your friendships, you’re not alone. A relationship and friendship are like ice and fire. It’s difficult for both to co-exist. While many people successfully manage the two, a lot of individuals fail at either of the two.

When you’re single, you don’t have to find yourself hanging between friendships and your relationship. You can focus all your time and energy on fostering friendships that will support you throughout your life. Remember that friends are the family you choose. Having caring and supportive friends can make your life easier and pleasant.

Final Thoughts: It’s Okay to be Alone on Valentine’s Day

Being in a relationship is a beautiful feeling – something every individual should experience. But it’s essential to understand that all things in life have a time. If you’re single, enjoy that moment and live it to the fullest.
